PONDA: The Bandora village Gram Sabha was adjourned on Sunday due to the absence of Sarpanch Sulaksha Naik.
It may be recalled that in January this year, the Gram Sabha was adjourned over the issue of alleged controversial road build at Farmagudi.
Villagers had demanded to demolish the road, but the panchayat had sought to take legal opinion.
On Sunday, when villagers questioned the absence of the sarpanch, the panchayat informed that Sarpanch Sulkasha Naik was on medical leave from March 8 and as a result she couldn’t attend the Gram Sabha.
This infuriated the villagers as they alleged that the sarpanch had attended a public function and raised doubts over the medical certificate submitted by the sarpanch to the panchayat seeking medical leave.
The villagers claimed that the sarpanch purposely stayed away from the Gram Sabha on the pretext on medical leave.
Villagers demanded for adjournment of the Gram Sabha and in future requested to conduct the Gram Sabha only in the presence of the sarpanch.
About 150 villagers attended the meeting.
