VASCO: Struggling to get rid of the debts with banks, the newly elected committee of Goa Barge Owners Association (GBOA) has demanded the immediate intervention of state government to bail them out.
The newly elected GBOA president Raymond Desa said the newly elected committee of GBOA has decided to make a fresh representation before the state government listing out problems faced by the barge owners and to request the government to call for a state level bankers committee (SLBC) meeting and to pressurize the banks not to auction the properties owned by defaulters.
“It is only the state government that can bail us out from a financial crises that has been prolonging for five years. Presently GBOA members have several issues, some of our members want a one time settlement scheme (OTS) and then the restructuring of the loans so that once the OTS figure is fixed the loans should be structured. Some of us want a 30 % waiver on loan amount and then the government should take over our loans as no bank is are ready to give loans to barge owners whose accounts have become NPA” Desa said.
