Speaking to media persons in a neighbour’s house shortly after the incident, Pratima said she had heard some noise in the hall in the wee hours of Friday.
“When I went to the hall, I found that my mother-in-law was being assaulted. I also heard noises in the bedroom of my sister-in-law and before I could react, someone hit me with a stick-like object on my head and then tried to strangulate me,” she told reporters.
However, Pratima, who also sustained a minor stab injury on her stomach, could not explain how she managed to escape from the robbers, while they ransacked the flat.
Doctors at the private hospital, where she was later admitted, informed Herald that though Pratima was out of danger, she had been kept under observation.
