It may be recalled that Ivone Paes had been murdered, while her husband, Maximiano, was brutally assaulted in their bungalow at Dabolim on July 6, 2011.
Despite prolonged investigations, Verna police failed to nab the killers and the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) had even criticised the police investigations into the case.
In its report, the GHRC pointed out that the case had not been properly investigated by the police and even went on to regret that supervisory officers had been lethargic in directing the investigation officers concerned.
Acting on a GHRC report, the case was recently handed over to the CID, Crime Branch, at Ribandar.
In the second case, Martha Felix Dias, a 60-year-old widow, was robbed and brutally murdered at her residence at Sasmollem-Baina on June 18, 2012. Martha was stabbed five times in the abdomen and her throat was also slit, while the assailants decamped with a mobile phone, some foreign currency and a car.
Vasco police said there had been no forced entry into the flat and suspected that the killer may have been known to Martha. Despite investigating the case from different angles, Vasco police could not trace the killer till date.
