PONDA: Members of Gomantak Bhandari Samaj (GBS) have urged the State government to fulfill its promise to grant 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in education and government jobs .
According to information, the GBS members had made representations to the State government requesting to increase existing OBC reservation quota from 19.5 to 27 per cent, based on the Supreme Court judgment in this matter.
“The State government had assured to grant 27 per cent by November this year, but November has ended and it’s not clear by when the government will give its nod,” said Ashok Naik, executive member Central Committee, Gomantak Bhandari Samaj.
Naik was addressing a news conference in Ponda on Sunday to brief the one-day programme to be organised in January next year to commemorate its (Gomantak Bhandari Samaj) 100 years. “The issue of reservation will not be discussed at the programme, however we will decid on the future course of action after the programme,” said Naik.
According to Naik, the GBS has completed 100 years in September 2013 and will have one-day programme on January 12, 2014, at Sport Complex ground, Curti-Ponda.
“On the occasion, 100 persons from the Samaj will be felicitated for their contribution to the society and expect participation of about 20,000 people from all the 12 talukas of the State,” informed Naik.
