In Bihar, Nandan Yadav, the main accused in the viral Jamui molestation case involving a Class 10 student, was shot in the leg during a police encounter. According to police, Yadav allegedly attempted to flee while he was being taken to the incident site near Madwa Hill. The case has drawn widespread attention after a video related to the alleged assault circulated online.

Police have arrested six people in connection with the case. Among those arrested is Ramashish Chaudhary, who is accused of making the assault video viral. The incident has also triggered political reactions, with opposition leaders demanding accountability over the handling of the case.
In sport, India secured its first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after the Harmanpreet Kaur-led women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final. India posted 216 for three, with Smriti Mandhana scoring 79, Shafali Verma making 48 and Richa Ghosh remaining unbeaten on 49.
Sri Lanka were then bowled out for just 69, with Deepti Sharma claiming three wickets for six runs. The victory marked another significant achievement for Indian women’s cricket and gave the country its first gold medal of the Games.
On the international front, the United States announced tougher measures against Iranian airlines. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Iranian carriers would effectively be shut out of global operations from September 23. Foreign companies providing fuel, landing services or tickets to the airlines could face secondary sanctions and exclusion from the US dollar-based financial system.
The announcement represents another escalation in Washington’s sanctions campaign against Tehran. Bessent also said China had been closely involved in discussions related to the measures.
Meanwhile, Britain has agreed to provide defensive military assistance to Saudi Arabia as the kingdom faces renewed attacks from Yemen’s Houthi movement. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said an RAF Voyager aircraft would provide air-to-air refuelling for Saudi fighter jets for several weeks from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.
The British government described the deployment as time-limited and said the assistance was aimed at helping protect Saudi energy infrastructure and oil routes.
In Pakistan, concerns have also emerged ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s planned September 27 march. Reports citing documents reviewed by Drop Site said hospitals in Islamabad were instructed to postpone elective surgeries and prepare for a possible mass-casualty situation.
The reported preparations came amid a crackdown on PTI supporters and the detention of Imran Khan’s three sisters — Aleema, Noreen and Uzma — along with other family members and party workers.
The developments put security and public-order concerns at the centre of attention ahead of the planned protest.
