Birch Fire Case: Mapusa JMFC Court Sends Terminated Panchayat Secretary Raghuvir Bagkar to 5-Day Police Custody

The Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court on Friday remanded terminated panchayat secretary Raghuvir Bagkar to five days of police custody in connection with the Birch fire case.

Bagkar was produced before the court by the investigating agency following his arrest, after which the magistrate allowed the police plea for custodial interrogation to facilitate further investigation into the incident.

Police informed the court that Bagkar’s custody was necessary to probe his alleged role in the case, recover crucial evidence and question him about the circumstances that led to the Birch fire tragedy.

The Birch fire case has sparked widespread concern, with the incident resulting in serious damage and raising questions over lapses in safety and administrative procedures. Further investigation is underway to establish responsibility and fix accountability.

The matter will come up for further hearing after the completion of the five-day police custody period.
