Birla Tyres closed its unit for a fortnight from yesterday. The same day, MRF Ltd said it declared a three-day lockout at its Arakkonam plant in Tamil Nadu starting yesterday, mainly on account of labour.
The Chennai-based company had served notice stating it was forced to close down from December 17 to December 31 in the first phase.
Birla Tyres reduced its production since October. The situation remaining unchanged and losses started accumulating sources forcing it to stop production for two weeks. After two weeks a further review would be conducted about its future course of action. However, Birla Tyre Workers Union president Rajendra Bal said the decision of company to retrench casual workers was unfortunate.
Bosch shuts down Bangalore plant
Auto parts maker Bosch Ltd also said it would temporarily close down production at its Bangalore plant for eight days starting December 25 to January 1, to avoid unnecessary inventory buildup. Earlier, the company said it would also close its Naganathapura plant for 14 days from tomorrow to avoid unnecessary inventory build up.
