BJP takes on police; want culprits nabbed within 8 days

Saying that enough is enough, BJP leaders on Tuesday has warned the South Goa district administration that people will be forced to take the law in their hands if the police fail to bring the culprits involved in the temple thefts to book within the next eight days.
A delegation of senior BJP leaders led by party General Secretary Govind Parvatkar and Rajendra Arlekar took a morcha to the Margao police headquarters this morning and confronted Superintendent of Police, South Allan De Sa over the spate of thefts.
Demanding immediate, thorough and serious investigations in the desecration and theft case in religious places in South Goa, Parvatkar said that the people will be forced to take the law in their hands if no breakthrough is achieved in the next eight days.
The leaders pointed out that the latest burglary that has taken place in Quitoll-Fatorpa has only exposed the police machinery. We have read all the usual empty promises of catching the culprits and bringing them to book at the earliest. With this latest burglary at hand for investigations, the burglary case at the Chandreshwar Bhuthnath Temple at Paroda is now forgotten”, the BJP said in their memorandum.
Saying that the whole of Goa in general and South Goa in particular has become a safe heaven for the burglars targeting Temples and Churches, the BJP leaders said though the police are equipped with sniffer dogs and finger print experts, sadly the burglaries are continuing with impunity, making mockery of the police force.
“For the last few years, the police have been totally ineffective and not a single case has been solved. The Police force, Home department and the Government of Goa have not been bothered at all and their existence if not felt anywhere”, they said.
Saying that the patience of the people of South Goa has reached its nadir and the same may lead to widespread unrest, the leaders pointed out that the value of the thefts is increasing day-by-day.
“It was Rs 18 lakhs in the case of Chandreshwar Bhutnath Temple and now the value of the stole items have touched Rs 30 lakh in the case of the Quitoll Temple. Further, a daylight robbery was witnessed in Sai Baba Temple at Adpai in Madkai constituency”, they said, while demanding immediate arrests of the culprits.
