MARGAO: BJP workers from Fatorda constituency on Friday gheraoed Margao Municipal Chief Officer Deepali Naik over what they called as the civic body’s failure to carry out pre-monsoon works in the constituency.
Led by BJP Fatorda Mandal Chief Arun Faldessai, the BJP workers demanded swift action by the civic body and warned of action if their demand was not met immediately.
After giving the workers a patient hearing, the MMC Chief Officer promised to get the work done by June 30, saying that necessary action will be initiated against those delaying the work.
The delegation took exception to the statement made by MMC Chairperson Arthur D’Silva stating that pre-monsoon work have been completed in Margao and Fatorda. “Our party workers visited various areas in Fatorda and have found pre-monsoon works haven’t commenced in many areas,” Faldessai said.
The delegation also expressed concern over the flow of leachate from the Sonsodo garbage dump, while lamenting over non-capping of the dump. “De-silting of storm water drains in many places has not yet begun. Stray cattle are a major problem,” Faldessai added.
He also took digs at Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai for not showing interest in the development of Fatorda, adding that people soon ask the MLA what he has done for the constituency in the last one year. “Vijai used to criticise the former MLA, but he has not done anything since his election in 2012,” he added.
