CUNCOLIM: Boat owners led by Cutbona Boat Owners’ Association president Savio D’Silva on Monday met Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado in Navelim and opposed the proposal to hand over the Cutbona jetty to the Fishermen’s Cooperative Society.
The Fisheries Minister told them that he would hold a meeting with both the unions and other stakeholders and discuss the jetty and other pending issues. He further said that during the meeting, he would also put forth their grievances.
Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Savio stated that they had conveyed to the Fisheries Minister, their opposition to the plan to hand over all the jetties to two fishermen cooperative societies.
Emphasizing that they are a registered society, he said we have done everything as per the law and have all the documents. The boat owners, he said, had paid Rs 2 lakh as annual fees to the government.
The jetty requires a boat pulling facility and this demand was made during their meeting with the fisheries minister, he added.
