MARGAO: Following recent landslides at Marlem-Borda that crushed a retaining wall and caused extensive damage to multiple apartments, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and the South Goa District Collector conducted an inspection on Saturday. They assured affected residents that the government would assist them under the Disaster Management Act.
The local councillor and various other government officials were also present for the inspection.

Sardesai urged authorities to increase the relief funds for each apartment owner. He referred to the Chief Minister’s statement in the Assembly that families can receive up to Rs five lakh depending on the damage. Sardesai requested the Collector’s office to provide Rs two lakh each to the owners of the seven apartments that suffered major damage. Officials are still preparing estimates for flats with minor damage.
Sardesai also demanded that the compensation be disbursed by Monday and suggested that the amount could be increased if the repair work exceeds initial expectations. He committed support from his resource persons to ensure no delays. However, he cautioned that the retaining wall repair might take time due to the need to stabilise the hill where the landslide occurred.
Earlier, the Collector’s office and government officials collected details and assessed the damage to each apartment, the retaining wall, and the surrounding area.
