Addressing a news conference, Borkar refuted allegations that he had demanded cash from a Vasco-based businessman. “When the businessman called on my mobile phone, I was in Kolhapur and on my way back to Sancoale. He insisted that he wanted to meet me on the day of the incident, but I told him to meet me near the Sancoale church junction,” stated Borkar.
“The businessman came in his car and offered a bundle of cash. Since I refused to take the cash from him, he forcibly tried to push the bundle of notes into the rear pocket of my pant,” said Borkar.
Borkar further informed that he objected to it and as he (Borkar) was about to sit in the car, some policemen came from behind and informed that he is under arrest for accepting a bribe.
“While I was being questioned by the police, the businessman opened the door of the car in front of the police and threw the cash on the front seat of the car. I was later taken to the police station, where police officials dipped my hands into a solution to check whether there was any colour on my hand.”
“As the solution did not change the colour, the police then dipped my shirt and there also the police failed to establish their motive. The police then dipped my pant into the solution, which turned purple and that was because the businessman had tried to push the notes into the pocket of my pant,” said Borkar.
Borkar said he was warned a week before the incident that a politician was trying to frame him up by putting drugs in his car.
“However, the politician did not succeed in his attempts and hence, he hatched another plan to defame me by using the businessman to bribe me,” Borkar said.
“A politician from Dabolim is aware that he will not get elected from Dabolim constituency, as the seat belongs to MGP and he wants to contest once again from Cortalim and I will not allow it to happen,” he affirmed.
