COLLEM, JAN 22
Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists traveling along Collem-Mollem road will continue to have a bumpy ride as the road repair work has been halted.
It is learnt that the estimated cost of widening and resurfacing of 6-7 km road is about Rs 2 crore. The contractor was asked by the concerned department to complete the work within six months.
According to sources, it is almost over nine months since the repair and hot-mixing work had started. However, the contractor repaired 1-km road from Collem side and 3 kms on Mollem side, keeping the middle portion unrepaired.
Speaking to Herald, locals have sought to know why the contractor repaired the road from both the sides of Collem and Mollem, but kept the middle portion of 4 kms without being repaired.
The condition of the 4-km road is in dilapidated condition and needs immediate repairs. A large number of craters and pot holes have developed on the road, thereby making the road dangerous for the motorists and others.
The Collem-Mollem road has been largely used by tourists who visit Dudhsagar, besides commercial vehicles like trucks, passenger buses that ply along Sanvordem-Margao-Sancorda-Ponda route.
