OLD GOA: About 24 passengers had a lucky escape when the engine of a bus on a South Goa tour caught fire after it broke down along the Kadamba road at Chimbel.
The passengers who were travelling in the bus were shifted to another bus before the incident occurred. A fire Motorcycle First Response Team (MFRT) arrived at the scene and doused off the fire before it could engulf the bus.
According to information available, the bus (GA-07-F-3917) and proceeding from Panjim to Old Goa broke down at the Kadamba road at Chimbel at 12 pm, and the 24 passengers travelling in the bus were shifted to another bus.
Meanwhile, after some repairs, the driver attempted to start the bus but instead smoke started billowing from the engine. The driver immediately alerted the fire services and a fire MFRT arrived at the spot and doused off the fire which had engulfed the engine.
Two fire tenders, one from Old Goa and another from Panjim, and a quick response vehicle also arrived at the scene.
