As Old Collectorate will be used for Lusofonia Games
MARGAO: Many a government department anxiously waiting to shift to the old South Goa District Collectorate will have to wait till the conclusion of the delayed Lusofonia games scheduled next year.
The government has decided to convert the old building into a barrack for the central para-military forces which will be requisitioned for security during the Lusofonia Games.
When Herald contacted District Collector, N D Agrawal on the matter, he confirmed that the old Collectorate building will be used to house security personnel during the games. “Except the old furniture, we have shifted all the departments into the new building. Only the Treasury is functioning from the ground floor of the building,” Agrawal said, adding that allocation of space for government departments will take place only after the Lusofonia games.
The South Goa Zilla Panchayat, which was waiting to shift to the Old Collectorate building has been told by the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to wait till the games are over.
“We want to shift our Zilla Panchayat office to the Old Collectorate building at the earliest, but have to now wait till the conclusion of the games,” remarked South Goa ZP Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues.
A number of government departments are making a beeline for the space in
the Old Collectorate building, putting the revenue officials in a tight spot to accommodate all.
