Regarding the recruitment, it may be recalled that around 300 applicants had secured jobs in the department across various levels but this was suspended in December 2021 by the Chief Minister subject to an inquiry into the allegations of corruption that had snowballed into a pre-election issue.

“Whether it is a scam or not a scam will be known after inquiry. If you ask me personally, if it is a scam, let us scrap it first only and then start the process all over again, those who have qualified shouldn’t have any problem and they can apply and qualify again,” Nilesh said.

On another note, Cabral said he will start a Twitter handle similar to the one started by him for the Electricity Department – 1912.

“The officials should be put into the habit of taking phone calls at any time,” he said, while talking about pinning the accountability down the line of hierarchy in PWD Department.

He added that they are also working as an efficient tracking system for government court cases.

“I will try to find the root cause of 40 per cent revenue loss in the water supply due to bad infrastructure and try to plug the losses.”

He said his department will also look for ways and means of reusing treated water,” he added.
