MARGAO: In order to bring all financial institutions under the tax net, the Margao Municipal Council on Thursday issued notices and directed to provide the latest copy of their lease agreement and other details.
Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes issued these notices. As informed by the CO, the civic body has issued such notices to around nine banks and directed them to submit the details within the period of seven days.
“The council intends to bring all the financial institutions under the tax net as it was brought to the notice that some of the financial establishments are running on rented basis who are not paying the adequate property tax, advertisement fees, signboards fees displayed on their premises,” stated in the notice.
It has been further stated that as such this council has decided to collect the latest lease agreement, and the survey of the ATM counter, advertisement boards and number of signboards.
A few days ago, the CO had issued directions to the officers of the civic body for a survey pertaining to illegal businesses operating in the jurisdiction of the municipality. Many petrol pumps are found out to be engaged in other business activities at the site, without the knowledge and trade permissions from the civic body.
