CALANGUTE: The Calangute panchayat has reached out to Tata Trent Chairman Noel Tata to explore the possibility of constructing a new market and bus-stand complex in Calangute. According to the panchayat, Tata had recently expressed interest in the project.

Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira issued a ‘letter of intent’ to Noel Tata, seeking to advance discussions on the proposed initiative. The letter stated: “The panchayat requests your company to provide details of the proposed project, including the terms and conditions under which it can be undertaken in association with the panchayat. This should also include an examination of legal issues to facilitate the project. The panchayat is willing to review and discuss the proposal, and a decision regarding the project’s implementation will be made within a specified time frame.”
The idea of constructing the market and bus-stand complex was discussed at the panchayat’s fortnightly meeting on September 17, during which a resolution was passed. The resolution stated: “The proposal for constructing a market complex with a bus-stand, leveraging the expertise and support of Tata Trent Limited, Mumbai, through the execution of appropriate documents, was discussed. The panchayat resolved to issue a letter of intent for the project’s construction. It was also decided to present the details to the director of panchayats to secure approval for proceeding with the project.”
Subsequently, the proposal was addressed at a gram sabha in October. A resolution was adopted affirming the necessity of the project, stating: “The development of a market complex and bus-stand in Calangute is essential for enhancing local infrastructure and supporting community needs. It is imperative to ensure that all legal requirements and protocols are adhered to in the planning and execution of such projects.”
