CALANGUTE: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said the road widening work from Calangute Association to Charlston Hotel at Khobra Vaddo, Calangute, will be finally completed within a couple of days.
“GSIDC has floated a tender while work order is being issued to carry out the required works at the site. A contractor will carry out site inspection on Wednesday,” asserted Lobo.
Reacting to an advertisement in Herald by a local threatening to go on hunger strike, Lobo said: “The local is not planning to go on hunger strike because of the road of 15 metres width, but he wants planned development of Calangute village.”
“I explained to him about the road width of 15 metres and he is aware that there are old Portuguese houses, wine shops, restaurants, etc, within the width area. The locals of the area are more than willing to give two-and-half metres on either side of the road to widen the road,” stated Lobo.
“The road works will be started soon and completed within a couple of days as GSIDC has finalized a contractor for the job who will inspect the site on Wednesday. GSIDC had floated tenders while a work order is being issued for the purpose. So locals should not worry about dust pollution any more. I will see to it that the work is completed without any further delay in the interest of locals and tourists,” added Lobo.
It may be recalled that one of the locals released an advertisement stating that he has brought the coffin and urged the two leaders, Joseph Sequeira and Michael Lobo, to work together and carry out the development.
