MAYEM: Deputy Speaker Anant Shet and GSIDC Vice Chairman and MLA Dr Pramod Sawant along with GSIDC officials on Friday inspected the Calvim bridge.
Speaking to media after the inspection, Shet and Dr Sawant said that as the work is almost nearing completion, the bridge will be inaugurated tentatively on October13 or 14 in the presence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and local MLA Glenn Ticlo. They said they are satisfied with the construction work of the bridge.
“This new bridge, which is a dream project of the government, has been completed in stipulated time,” said Dr Sawant, adding that the bridge is constructed at a cost of Rs 54.85 crore and that it is of significant importance to the villagers from Aldona and Calvim as they are dependent on ferryboat service plying between these two villages.
Shet said the completion of the bridge will mitigate the difficulties of the people, especially during monsoon. “It is also proposed to promote Calvim village as a tourist destination, and the bridge will help in providing easy access to the village,” he added.
“The bridge will also boost tourism in Mayem and we are planning to have tourist spot in Calvim and nearby area to attract tourists,” said Shet.
Dr Sawant said in next few days painting and other works will be undertaken on war footing.
GSIDC managing director Umesh Naik said they have completed the work of the bridge except some adjusting work which is going on and it will be completed by next week or early October.
