MARGAO: It has come to light that the presiding officer appointed to conduct election for the vacant post of Margao Municipal Chairperson is also holding additional charge as Margao Municipal Chief Officer.
This has raised a question whether a CO of a civic body can also preside over the election of a Civic Chairperson. While the Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes had appointed Mormugao CO Y B Tawde as the presiding officer to conduct the Chairperson’s election on October 4, it has subsequently come to light that Tawde is technically holding the charge as MMC CO in the absence of Deepali Naik, who is on medical leave.
The unusual situation has come to light after Tawde assumed charge of the MMC Chief Officer based on an earlier order.
