CALANGUTE: The Calangute Police on Tuesday detained a suspect from Karnataka in connection with the murder of 69-year-old Arnaldo Soares at his residence at Orda, Candolim, which was later confirmed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that the suspect has been arrested.
Sawant informed the Goa Legislative Assembly that the suspect, who allegedly murdered Arnaldo, has been arrested in Karnataka, and brought to Goa.
Replying to a calling attention motion by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo stating there was fear and anxiety in the minds of the people of Candolim due to the increasing number of murders taking place in the late nights and wee hours of mornings, Sawant said all beat staff has been briefed to maintain regular patrolling in their respective beat area and directed to develop good police-public relations and work out intelligence for the detection and prevention of the crime.
It may be recalled that an unidentified person had effected entry into the house of Arnaldo by removing roof tiles of the house and committed his murder by causing him head injuries on July 14, 2024. The unidentified person also decamped with his car which was parked in the garden.
