CANACONA: The capsized trawler, which has been traced to an owner in Malpe-Karnataka, is likely to be towed away in a few days.
According to the Marine police, some persons on learning about the capsized trawler in Goan waters rushed to Agonda and after seeking help of some fishermen, visited the site on Thursday morning. It is learnt that the capsized trawler has now moved closer to the shore. “The visitors, however, realised that the trawler did not belong to them, but identified the ill-fated vessel as that belonging to a party from Malpe, a coastal area near Udupi in Karnataka,” informed a Talpona Marine police source.
According to Taluka fisheries department sources and Marine police, the Malpe owners of the fishing boat have assured to visit the site within two days to tow away the capsized trawler to Karnataka. It is also learnt that three different fishing trawlers of Karnataka had capsized off the Bhatkal coast some 10 days ago and all crew members had been rescued by other fishing trawlers. One of these trawlers is believed to have reached Goan waters due to rough sea conditions.
When contacted, Taluka fisheries supervisor Purushottam Velgikar confirmed the developments and said various Goan authorities, including the South Goa collector had expressed support in removing the capsized fishing boat, as it threatened other fishing activities in the area.
