An SUV carrying four people fell into the
Zuari river from the bridge during the wee
hours of Thursday, after breaching the bridge railings, police said. The vehicle coming from the Margao side swerved to the right side
of the road and hit the bridge railings. The vehicle was reportedly being driven at a high speed.
The Goa Police along with a coast guard vessel, barges, and fire and emergency services personnel launched an operation to locate the vehicle, but could not trace it in the night due to darkness, an official said. The Indian Navy divers also joined the search and rescue operation on Thursday morning.
The bodies of the 4 occupants, 1 woman and 3 men, were recovered after a four-hour
rescue operation by 1.30 pm on Thursday, and have been identified by relatives and
brought to Goa Medical College for post-mortem.
