VASCO: Vasco MLA and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida has been nominated on the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of Hubli division of South Central Railway.
Almeida informed this at a press conference in Vasco on Thursday. “During a recent meeting of DRUCC, I brought to the notice of Chief Operational Manager Gupta the hardship faced by passengers at the Ticket Reservation Hall at Vasco Railway station due to lack of space,” he said.
“I urged Gupta to acquire the MPT building which is lying vacant in front of the railway station to create more space for ticket reservation counter and other facilities to minimise the difficulties faced by the passengers,” informed Almeida.
With regard to doubling of the rail track up to Vasco, Almeida said he sought to know the status of the proposal and added that he informed the committee that it will help State’s trade and commerce.
“I have also urged the committee to have a train to Valankanni twice a week. It creates a lot of hardship for the pilgrims on the return journey from Valankanni as the train makes a halt only for half an hour,” he said.
Almeida further said he has also petitioned the committee to halt the train at Sanvordem railway station for the benefit of pilgrims of that area.
Almeida said he has suggested re-starting the Vasco-Miraj train which will help passengers to travel to Miraj.
