MARGAO: After Pooja Naik and Deepashree Sawant, the multi-crore cash-for-jobs scam has led to the arrest of four more queen-pins, who deceived victims with the promise of lucrative government jobs for large sums of money.
Two of these, Sonia Achari and Vishaya Gawde, have been arrested in Margao, while Uma Patil and her son Shivam have been held from Baina. The fourth name is that of Diksha Talavanekar.

Sonia and Vishaya have been arrested by the Margao police for allegedly cheating Sunil Borkar of Rs 16.12 lakh by promising him a job in the Indian Navy’s Sea Bird project in Karwar. Sonia is a resident of Karwar and Vishaya hails from Sao Jose de Areal.
Uma and her son Shivam’s names have come up in around 15 complaints, marking them out to be key perpetrators of the scam. In one case, they allegedly took Rs 6 lakh from Rashmi Chopdekar of Chimbel, promising her a position as a police constable. In another instance, they reportedly conned a woman from Baina out of Rs 1.7 lakh with similar false promises.
Uma has also been booked by Colvale Police for allegedly taking Rs 4 lakh from 44-year-old Ujwala Parab from Nadora, Revora, on the pretext of providing a government job to her husband. Colvale Police has moved a transfer warrant before JMFC, Bicholim, for custody of Uma who is currently in the custody of Vasco Police.
In another case, Vasco police, have registered a cheating offence against Diksha Talavanekar, who allegedly took Rs 3 lakh from Baina resident Mina Chodankar with the promise of a government peon’s job.
