PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has identified nearly 350 abandoned vehicles, which are occupying precious parking space in the city.
City Mayor Uday Madkaikar told media persons on Wednesday that the Corporation has identified 350 abandoned vehicles for auction. “We will float the tender for auctioning of these vehicles shortly,” he said.
The Mayor said that these vehicles, majority of which are two-wheelers, are occupying maximum parking space in the city.
Large chunk of abandoned vehicles can be seen near Panjim police station, EDC-Patto Palaza, Market area, and in many lanes.
Following orders from North Goa Collector, CCP had in May 2016, auctioned around 49 vehicles at a nominal price of 60,000.
In 2017 and 2018, the Corporation was unable to auction the vehicles with finance department refusing to grant its consent to the tender, which had estimated cost par below.
Meanwhile, the Corporation has selected Zuvarkar Associates for implementing pay parking in the city. The pay parking will be implemented in nine places.
The Mayor said that the contractor has to first do marking and put up signboards.
