CCP in search of flooding solutions

An official of IPSCDL said that it will soon form a task force and informed that the practical implementation of which is expected to start in 2-3 months

PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has resolved to find permanent solutions to the perennial annual flooding of the capital during heavy showers.

CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate informed that the CCP has roped in Goa Engineering College (GEC), Water Resource Department (WRD), Public Works Department (PWD), Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) along with the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) to find out a concrete solution on mitigating the issue of city’s flooding.

He said that the committee will prepare an action plan on how to mitigate the city’s inundation. 

“GEC has already submitted its report about the same. CCP will soon conduct a meeting to decide on the further course of action,” he added. 

An official of IPSCDL said that it will soon form a task force and informed that the practical implementation of which is expected to start in 2-3 months. The plan of action will be decided in the upcoming meeting, he added.

Adding further he said the capability of the conventional drainage systems has weakened over a period of time and hence the unpredictable pattern of rainfall is leading to inundation of the city. The aim of the newly formed committee is to come up with innovative ideas and to implement them with the help of digital surveying, planning and by using the digital elevation model,” added the official.
