Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) today held a meting with departments of electricity, PWD, Water Resources, BSNL, Town and Traffic Police regarding of digging of roads and clogging of the St Inez nullah.
The meeting which was chaired by the CCP Chairperson Carolina Po was assisted by the Commissioner Elvis Gomes. During he meeting Po stated that BSNL and the electricity dept is laying cables by damming the drains and without taking prior permission from CCP.
The BSNL officials alleged that the electricity department while digging roads damaged their cables and refuted the charges made by the chairperson that cables are laid without taking prior permission.
The officials from electricity department suggested that before taking up any digging work a prior intimation should be given to all the concerned departments in order to take up preventive steps.
As the blame game was going on Commissioner Elvis Gomes informed the officials that the meeting was called for better coordination between the concerned departments and the officials should come out with a solutions rather that blaming each other.
Gomes further stated that till the government appoints a nodal agency to receive intimation on the work that will be carried out, CCP will act as the nodal agency in coordination the various works.
Mayor Po suggested that prior to the digging there has to be an undertaking by the department concerned that they should come out with a public notice in the dailies so the general public is aware and that they are not taken by surprise.
While talking to Herald CCP Chairperson Carolina Po said that this meeting is called to provide better facilities to the citizens and that the CCP has made some suggestions which all the departments have accepted.
CCP commissioner Elvis Gomes said that Panjim is the city where many agencies work on and the CCP becomes the face before the public. To bring all the agencies on the common platform, to address the subject in the more integrated manner and to provide better service to the citizens this meeting is called and urged the officials of the various department to consider as part of CCP while delivering their services to the citizens for which the CCP will minimize the problems faced by the citizens.
While commenting on the solid waste management Gomes said that every one must understand that CCP is doing a marvelous job in handling the waste though they are facing a disposal site.
Gomes further stated that the CCP has come out with solutions and 160 composting units have been set up which are functioning besides this two sorting centers for non Bio degradable which are also functioning.
Gomes added that as the composting units and the sorting centers cannot cope up with the load some times the waste increases.
