PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji has begun sorting out the ownership issues in the municipal market by asking all occupants of shops to submit valid occupancy certificates by March 31 failing which they would be evicted from the premises. This is a prelude to signing of lease agreement with the legal occupants of the new Municipal market.
CCP is also due to float tenders for its much awaited pay-parking facility along the 18 June road and Church Square, which houses number of business establishments, by next week.
Briefing media persons, CCP Mayor Surendra Furtado said that Corporation has already issued public notice directing the legal occupants of the shops to submit proof of their occupancy claims over shop or stall before the administrative cum accounts officer of CCP by March 31. “CCP will start signing agreements with legal owners thereafter,” he said.
“If the occupants fail to execute the lease agreement they will be summarily evicted from the new market as per the provisions of law,” he said. The lease agreement will be signed for three years with rent charges of Rs 256 per square meter as approved by PWD. The CCP Commissioner had in the past submitted a report saying that 95 per cent of those doing business were illegal occupants of shops.
Regarding pay parking, Furtado said that State urban development ministry has cleared file pertaining to pay parking along 18th June Road and Church Square adding, “Looking at public response, pay parking would be introduced in other parts of Panjim in phased manner,” he said.
With traffic congestion and haphazard parking increasing in the city, the CCP and traffic department had moved the pay parking proposal that was pending before Government since June, last year.
