PANJIM, SEPT 23
While Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar and Panjim MLA along with some BJP supported corporators have opposed the Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP)’s plans to start pay parking at three locations in the city, it (CCP) wants to have pay parking at more places in Panjim.
“Approval for expanding pay parking to other places in the city” is on agenda of the CCP’s meeting scheduled for Friday. The Opposition Leader had registered its opposition to pay parking plans of the CCP on the grounds that it cannot have pay parking unless all the existing parking spaces in the city are opened up.
He had alleged that many buildings in the city have blocked parking spaces and CCP is solely responsible for existing parking problem.  Earlier this week CCP announced the introduction of pay parking in the city beginning with 18 th June Road, market area and Dona Paula jetty.
When contacted Elvis Gomes, CCP Commissioner, said he has brought it to the notice of Mayor , Carolina Po about objections raised by the Opposition Leader pertaining to pay parking. Mayor when contacted however, said they haven’t discussed the issue  and no decision has been taken.
Meanwhile, CCP has taken action against blocking of parking space at Tamba House on M G Road. Access to the parking space was made difficult by uneven levelling. Parrikar had specifically pointed out about blocking of the parking space at Tamba House and alleged that occupancy certificate was granted to the owner by flouting rules.
Gomes said they have taken action in this regard and the owner has been asked to open up the parking space.
