CCP poll dates notified

PANJIM: A total of 31, 504 people from 30 wards of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) will be eligible to exercise their franchise in the council election on March 6. Counting will take place on March 8.

Goa State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday issued the notification announcing the election schedule. The month long Model Code of Conduct, now being imposed within CCP jurisdiction, will come into effect from February 8 and end on March 8 midnight.
Election Commissioner M Modassir said the CCP election will be held on March 6, with the existing term expiring on March 22.  Modassir said Electronic Voting Machines would be used.
The expenditure limit per candidate has been increased to Rs 2.5 lakh which is almost three times compared to the 2011 election, when the limit was fixed at 75,000 per candidate. “Panjim being the costlier city we decided to increase the limit to Rs 2.5 lakh,” he said. The process of filing of nominations will begin from February 9 and end on 16.
