The accused person was later rushed to hospital for medical attention, as he was bleeding.
According to the CCTCV footage, the incident occurred at 7 am when the accused person armed with sledge hammer allegedly started damaging and breaking the window glasses of the night club under the influence of liquor. The accused person first broke the window glasses with the help of hammer and then with fists, causing injuries to his hand.
In the meantime, the locals entered the night club through the entrance door and managed to catch hold of the accused and allegedly beat him up. The accused was later rushed to a nearby hospital and is recuperating.
The night club owners initially thought it was a business rivalry and filed an FIR with Calangute Police.
However, it was later learnt through sources that the bouncers of the night club had an argument with the accused person on the main road, where the bouncers had even allegedly sprayed pepper powder on the accused.
In retaliation, the accused broke the window glasses of the night club, where the bouncers guarded the premises.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo along with the officers of Calangute Police Station led by PSI Nitin Harlankar rushed to the site of incident and took stock of the situation.
Speaking to Herald, Lobo said the police need to provide security to tourist places like the famous night clubs in Baga, as it generates revenue to the government treasury besides providing employment to Goan youth.
“The police need to patrol the area, especially during night to avoid re-occurrence of similar incidents in future. The security of tourists and places frequented by many should be of utmost importance,” stated Lobo.
