PANJIM: The Goa Tourism Department is all set to have CCTV surveillance on the vital beaches in North Goa. The Department has said that the Goa Electronic Limited (GEL) has been appointed as nodal agency to execute the project wherein Expression of Interest (EOI) and Request For Proposal (RFP) are already published.
The action of the department was prompted after series of crimes on the beaches and especially for the women’s safety. Goa has in past been in series of controversies for safety of tourists on the beaches.
However, Minister for Tourism, Dilip Parulekar has said that Goa Tourism Development Corporation has also proposed the electronic surveillance on beaches and same has been approved by Ministry of Tourism under the centrally-funded Swadesh Darshan Scheme.
The electronic surveillance includes installation of CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi on beaches and monitoring stations. The project Management Consultant M/s Darashaw & Co Pvt Ltd has submitted the file of detail tender documents such as plan, drawings and estimates etc. and is under scrutiny for submission for technical sanction, as per official records of Tourism Department.
Government has also approved Rs 3.61 cr for the project and the work will be tendered following codal formalities, the minister said. The proposal was received from five companies of which three have been qualified.
GEL has identified Baga, Calangute and Candolim Beaches whereas GTDC has identified Vagator, Anjuna and Baga parking area for CCTV surveillance.
Monitoring control room would be set up in tourism office Panjim and local police stations to monitor and record the activities by installing PTZ speed dome camera, fixed box cameras, conveying important messages by text or video to the tourist over variable message displays from control room.
