Chaos prevails at Dabolim Airport after taxis charged fee at exit gate

VASCO: Chaos prevailed at Dabolim Airport on Friday morning after taxi operators were charged Rs50 by some unknown people at the exit gate.
Taxi unions rushed at the spot along with Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo and warned the contractor, who was charging Rs 50 from taxis, to immediately stop this system.
Tourist taxi association leader has warned to come on the road on Monday if charging of Rs 50 at the exit gate restarts.
Speaking to this daily, Chetan Kamat, president of the Association of Tourist Taxi Owners Goa informed that from Thursday onwards some taxi operators were charged Rs 50 at the exit gate of the airport.
Kamat was informed by his colleagues about the new system.
After receiving several complaints from taxi operators, taxi unions, Kamat along with Curtorim MLA Reginaldo rushed at the airport and enquired with the people who were charging fee from the taxi operators.
When there is no parking place available at the airport how can someone charge a fee for waiting by giving parking slips,” he questioned.
He further said that efforts were also made to meet Airport Director by taking his appointment to sort out this issue, but he was unavailable.
“The persons who were charging money from us do not have identity cards nor they are from Goa and most of these employees are outsiders. We asked the contractor to stop this system immediately. If again taxis are charged at exit gate then we will be forced to come on the street on Monday,” Kamat mentioned.
