VASCO: The demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes has failed to dampen the spirit of charter travellers as they have kept their date with Goa.
According to Dabolim airport Director B C H Negi, before the start of tourism season in Goa, about 1000 charter flights had confirmed their arrival at Goa airport and even after demonetisation, not a single charter flight has cancelled its trip to Goa.
“There is absolutely no cancellations of charter flights scheduled to reach Goa for the ongoing tourism season. We would get the same number of flights and there is no effect of demonetisation on charter operations. Though there has been slight effect on domestic tourists arrivals after demonetisation,” Negi said.
Commenting on the preparations for the first day of 100 percent new currency operations from December 3 2016, he said, “Though few national banks have closed their cash exchange counters at Dabolim, yet we are fully geared up to handle the situation for 100 percent new currency operations at the airport. For foreign tourists the foreign currency exchange counter would be fully operational and as per directions and domestic tourists would be asked to use 100 percent new currency notes from Saturday to purchase tickets or they can even use cards for such payments.”
