CUNCOLIM: Unanimously rejecting the Regional Plan 2021, the Chinchinim gram sabha has resolved to demand its scrapping the plan, as “it is not people-friendly.” The sarpanch also received flak for failing to give satisfactory answers regarding a mobile tower in the village.
The gram sabha raised serious objections to the RP21 and claimed that the suggestions — like restricting the major district road (MDR) width to 15 metres — sent by the villagers had not been incorporated in the Plan. Stating that the MDR had been shown as 25 metres on the Plan, the villagers raised concern over the damage it could cause to private property, including houses.
The villagers alleged that the RP21 had been drafted without taking them into confidence and it was made to favour the builder lobby. They also stated that it would destroy the identity of the village and that agricultural and orchard lands have been shown as settlement zones, which was not acceptable to them.
The villagers finally resolved that the RP be scrapped and redrafted by taking them into confidence.
The gram sabha also discussed the issue of a mobile tower at the Chinchinim junction, to which some members had raised objections.
