Chodnekarancho Awaz held a public meeting opposing the ferry ticket hike. This protests were held amidst long queues of vehicles at the Chorao ferry point on Tuesday evening. Island habitants gathered to oppose the tyranny of the Government in not providing proper ferry services for the people of Chodan.
They have demanded an immediate roll back of the fees hike that was announced and finalised recently by the River Navigation Departmen. In addition to this the people have demanded for special passes be issued to 2 and four wheeler vehicle owners residing in the Island. The islanders have also demanded an improvement of the ferry services and enhancement of infrastructure and systems to streamline ferry operations.
The island dwellers have demanded 24-hour ferry services to address the concerns of emergencies. They have also demanded that there should be no ferry fee hike until the Government constructs a bridge connecting the island of Chorao to the main land.
