The annual Chotanagpur Youth Lenten Retreat was held at the SVD Seminary, bringing together a large number of young participants from across Goa for a day of prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal. The retreat was organised by Arnold Seva Kendra in collaboration with the Diocesan Youth Centre Goa.
The event began with an address by Fr. Michael Pereira, who encouraged the youth to embrace God’s grace and make meaningful use of the Lenten season. A vibrant session of praise and worship led by Fr. Cranston Vaz set a reflective tone for the day, helping participants engage deeply in prayer.
In his session, Fr. Michael reflected on the temptations of Jesus Christ, drawing parallels with the challenges faced by today’s youth and urging them to overcome struggles through faith, scripture, and prayer. Fr. Cranston, in his motivational talk, reminded participants of their vital role in both the Church and society, encouraging them to live purposeful, value-driven lives. The SVD seminarians and youth leaders further energized the gathering through animation songs and interactive activities that fostered unity and joy.
The afternoon session provided a more contemplative experience, with Eucharistic Adoration allowing youth to spend time in silence and deepen their personal connection with God. Many participants also availed of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, making it a moment of healing and spiritual renewal.
The retreat concluded with the Way of the Cross on the seminary hill, where participants reflected on the passion and sacrifice of Christ while relating it to their own life journeys. The serene surroundings added to the depth of the experience.
In his concluding remarks, Fr. Michael Pereira thanked God for the grace-filled day and expressed gratitude to Fr. Innocent Fernandes, Rector of the seminary, along with the SVD Fathers for their support and hospitality. He also acknowledged the contribution of Fr. Blaise Lobo for his guidance and collaboration, and thanked Fr. Heston Ferrao for assisting with confessions.
The retreat concluded on a spiritually uplifting note, with participants returning home renewed in faith, strengthened in hope, and committed to living Christ-centered lives during the Lenten season.
