PORVORIM: CM Pramod Sawant assured to look into the complaints that the Traffic police are harassing locals going for Church services, funerals, etc at Colva, following a complaint filed by Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao. The NCP legislator demanded that the traffic cell from Colva be removed.
While raising the issue, Alemao claimed that the parishioners were being penalised on their way to the Church services at Colva village by the traffic police who issue challans for not wearing helmets.
Alemao said that groups of policemen are posted on the road waiting and that they target mass goers who are usually without helmets on the internal village roads. “They issue a challan to even those going for funerals,” said Alemao.
Refusing to adhere to the demand, the CM however assured to inquire into the harassment issue.
Sawant said the policemen were doing their rightful duty by penalising the violators of traffic rules. “If you want the systems to be in place, the traffic rules should be followed. But still, if someone is harassing them, I will inquire into it,” he added.
