Assure ‘Swachchata’ at Adpai

Although Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha have been constantly stressing the need to maintain cleanliness at home and also at the jurisdiction of cities, towns and villages, no sincere efforts in this direction are forthcoming from the concerned authorities viz. the municipalities and Village Panchayats.
Scenes of scattered garbage are common at different locations. As far as villages are concerned, the village of Adpai in Ponda tends to be one peculiar instance in this regard. Elected representatives at the local VP have been conducting cleanliness drives from time to time. However, scenes of scattered garbage are regularly noticed.
Recently this VP started door-to-door collection of garbage. Still many locals are noticed dumping garbage either in open areas, nullahs or into the water at the Adpai ferry wharf. Hence unhygienic conditions happen to be the order of the day. Seen in the picture is scattered garbage lying along the road leading towards the Adpai jetty. Many pedestrians and travellers proceed along this route and such an undesirable situation turns to be an eyesore. Such a pitiful situation has been existing for quite long. In reality, it was necessary for the Directorate of Panchayats to depute its representatives for taking stock of the existing situation on various fronts and issue necessary suggestions for improvement. However such a step has been lacking and hence situation in villages turns from bad to worse.
