During rainy season, waterlogging along the road happens to be a common phenomenon at different locations. In and around Ponda too, such cases have been noticed at several spots.
In practice vehicle riders, especially those driving four wheelers/heavy vehicles, are required to use flaps in order to avoid splashing of rain water over fellow travellers and pedestrians. However, many of these vehicles flout this requirement. The ultimate sufferers in the process are the pedestrians and fellow travellers, more so two-wheeler riders. School/ college students and office goers would be put to great inconvenience as there is every possibility of their clothes getting wet and in some cases even dirty if mud/mud water splashes over them sooner or later.
Vehicle riders must see to it that mud flaps are fitted so as to prevent water and mud from splashing over the general public. It is the need of the hour for the Road Transport Office (RTO) and Traffic Cell Department to remain alert to such cases and see to it that they remain on their toes to deal firmly with vehicle riders who create nuisance for fellow travellers and pedestrians proceeding along the road.
Vehicles noticed without mud flaps should be levied hefty fines to be paid on the spot. Such negligent acts should not be tolerated. I hope the officials at the important departments will take a serious note of this and initiate prompt favourable action against negligent riders who overlook the difficulties of public.
