E-Buses in Goa

It is heartening to note that Goa is getting large contingent of Electrical buses and soon they will be deployed on the roads. The public transport system is generally affordable and convenient, reliable and it plays critical part in growth of a city.

One recalls that about 2 – 3 decades ago, Tata Consultancy Services was commissioned by the Goa government to give the plans to improve locomotion  for Goa. We hope that the report is available with the concerned department and the government will consider the same for implementation now.

Typically a public transport system follows radial – hub and spoke – style (from a city to various suburbs) and circular connecting all suburbs. It is presumed that the government has carried out proper home-work and soon we have pragmatic bus routes, operational from early morning to late night, all days of the week. Considering Panaji, it’s hoped that there will be several routes connecting Kadamba bus station to say GMC via Santacruz, Talegaon and Dona Paula giving connectivity to most parts of Panaji. More importantly, the bus timings should be followed as per the time table and also possible to wait at a bus stop and track bus from an app, like its possible in Bengaluru.

Simultaneously, the government should also flood cities with electrically operated rickshaws considering other aspects like reducing private vehicles and thereby pollution in way to mitigate climate change impact.

With electrical buses, Goa public transport system is entering in a new and challenging era and public expectation is much higher. It’s also hoped that the public will have much less to complain and will patronize the system wholeheartedly and thereby by reducing private vehicles on the road and reducing pollution.
