Once you arrive at the railway crossing gate no 18 in a the village of Chandor, the signboard erected there will baffle you and for a split second make you wonder where you are.
As you can see in the picture, the signboard is making villagers think and even furious, as it is not in Konkani and English as it should have been. Surprisingly the signboard erected at the Chandor railway crossing gate is in Kannada, the state language of Karnataka and can be seen is in Kannada and English.
It is rather mischievous and unacceptable and obviously the Railway authorities should have known that this is the of state of Goa and the official language of Goa is Konkani and not Kannada.
The Karnataka government has made their state language compulsory and keeping that in mind, Konkani being our Goa state language the signboard should have been in Konkani and English.
We request the signboard is corrected as soon as possible, as this is a serious issue. The South Western Railway department and Station Master of Chandor should change the sign board immediately and ensure that such a thing does not happen in future.
