Even as the state government continues its struggle to resolve the long-standing Sonsoddo garbage issue, concerns are now emerging over an alleged new waste dumping site developing along the recently inaugurated highway near Benaulim.
Situated near the subway on the left side of the road towards Navelim, this growing dump has become an eyesore along the otherwise scenic highway, which was opened to the public just last month. Commuters and locals alike have expressed their frustration over the unsightly waste piles, fearing that if left unchecked, it could turn into South Goa’s second Sonsoddo.

Environmental activists and residents have urged the Environment Ministry, Pollution Control Board, and the local Panchayat to intervene before the situation worsens. “A stitch in time saves nine. Instead of struggling to find a solution later, authorities must take immediate steps to prevent this from becoming another major garbage crisis,” a concerned local remarked.
With waste management remaining a persistent challenge in several parts of Goa, locals are calling for stricter enforcement and better waste disposal alternatives to prevent unregulated dumping along public infrastructure. The question remains—will the authorities act before it’s too late?
