Thousands of people will be descending at old Goa in the coming days. Most of the people will be coming in their own vehicles.
Hence it is of utmost necessity to see that the roads around the Basilica provide for safe driving. In this respect it is observed that the twin speed-breakers outside the main gate of the Basilica are badly in need of a fresh coat of paint.
These speed-breakers are in close proximity of the two zebra-crossings along which pedestrians cross the road to go from Se Cathedral to Basilica of Bom Jesus and vice-versa. Hundreds of pedestrians cross this road every single day.
Hence it becomes absolutely necessary to repaint these speed breakers so that the vehicular drivers are forewarned and are able to slow down as they approach speed breakers and zebra-crossings.
For decades, the feast and the novenas of St Francis Xavier at Old Goa, which are held outside the Basilica of Bom Jesus have been attracting devotees from the country and across the world.
