At last Panjimites had a relief of the work entrusted by the PWD to a Haryana-Delhi firm having professional equipment to fill up the potholes.
I saw this work going on Sunday, at 7 pm, with all the setup of technical staff and a supervisor directing the work of filling patches of potholes on the 18th June Road. The photo of the vehicle shows, the leads protruding from their vehicle tank reservoir which is filled with bitumen, material mixture of cement and stones to be filled in the potholes.
I interviewed their senior engineer present and also PWD Junior Engineer Antonio Corte at the venue. According to me, the work was at a very high speed and one square metre pothole filling up was taking 10 minutes with all ingredients which includes cutting, levelling and polishing /finishing. According to the supervisor, the cost is around Rs 1,000 per sq mt approximately to be charged for the PWD.
I was told that the materials were loaded in their vehicle at Colvale. They are equipped with two trucks in Goa, one at North and other at South Goa. The Margao group already started the work and Panjim commenced on Sunday on the18th June Road near the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) building.
Earlier week, the CCP has streamlined all the areas in Panjim which had been obstructing parking problems near the entrance of houses and shops possibly to give access for this firm to perform a good job.
Hope everything goes well and hopefully their guarantee period of 18 months, this work remains without any hazards. With the current state of our roads, may be the filling of potholes will cost as much as the new roads.
