Two sets of rumbler-strips have been put up on the main road at Bambolim near the Holy Cross shrine. What sets these strips apart is that, unlike the other rumbler-strips that one comes across on the roads at various places, reflectors have been attached to the strips present at this location as seen in the photo.
Reflectors and fluorescent paint are normally used to demarcate the portion of the road from the road shoulders. Use of reflectors and fluorescent paint on the roads usually means that vehicles should maintain some distance from these objects which could be in the form of road-dividers or any obstruction on the road. However, when reflectors are put on the rumbler-strips it can confuse road users at night as it may appear from a distance that the road is closed for traffic when on the contrary they (the reflectors) are being used to caution the vehicular drivers of the strips.
The authorities concerned need to consider if it is proper to use reflectors for rumbler-strips. Such reflectors can create confusion in the mind of vehicular drivers at night specially, visitors to the state who move about in their vehicles and are not accustomed to Goan roads.
