As per Goa traffic and statistics, road accidents have claimed lives of around 219 persons till September 23 this year. The number of accidents 227 and this includes fatal accidents claiming lives of two wheeler and four wheelers riders.
The increase in road accidents are due to negligence or overspeeding. The two wheeler riders normally avoid using helmets and four wheeler drivers avoid seat belts.
On one hand, we blame bad roads but on other hand good roads lead to accidents. Over 1.95 lakhs have been collected via challans due to violation of traffic rules. The number of traffic violations are on rise and also increase in road fatalities.
The government should come down heavily on those violating traffic rules and book them with fine and cancellation of licence. The fatal accident at Banastarim was due to carelessness and don’t care attitude on road.
Many youth lose their lives because of over speeding and drunken driving. There should be all steps to control traffic on roads and also CCTVs camera should be installed at accident prone areas.
